For over three decades, Chief Batton stood on the front lines, selflessly serving and protecting our community in North Carolina. His commitment shaped countless lives and built a legacy of courage and compassion that will endure for another 30 years and beyond.

Now, his family faces an unexpected and immense challenge. I've learned that while awaiting the life insurance process, his children are personally covering all immediate expenses.

The courageous men and women of the Oxfordshire Fire Department face danger every day to keep our community safe. On May 15th, 2025, that danger tragically claimed the lives of two of our own, Jennie Logan and Martyn Sadler, while they bravely fought a fire at Bicester Motion. Their dedication to service and their selfless actions will never be forgotten. We also mourn the loss of David Chester, a member of our community. Jennie and Martyn embodied the true spirit of heroism, and their loss leaves a void in the hearts of their colleagues and the community they served so valiantly. Two other firefighters were injured in the blaze and are currently receiving medical care. Chief Mike Turner is more than just a Battalion Chief; he's a leader, a mentor, and a friend to so many in the Decatur Township Fire Department and the wider community. Following a severe motorcycle accident, Chief Turner is currently on a ventilator and is bravely fighting serious brain injuries and a C1-C3 fracture.

For Firefighter Michael “Mick” Lilly of Meadville Firefighters IAFF Local 515, becoming a professional firefighter was a lifelong ambition. After serving part-time, his dedication earned him a full-time position just this year. Tragically, an accident while jump-starting a tractor has left Mick with severe injuries – a broken neck and shoulder – and the devastating possibility of never walking again.

Dylan, a dedicated FF/EMT with Havelock Fire-Rescue, has bravely served our community for over two years. A former Marine, Dylan embodies selflessness and commitment in everything he does. Now, Dylan and his family face a new challenge. He was recently hospitalized and diagnosed with a ruptured spleen and a mass on his kidney, requiring transfer to a higher level of care.

For years, retired Phoenixville Firefighter Anthony Franz bravely answered the call, protecting our community. Now, he's facing his own emergency, battling stage 4 colon cancer. Let's show Anthony the same support he's always given us. Donate now to help him with his medical expenses.

We are heartbroken to share the news of the sudden passing of Fire Commissioner and EMS Captain Mark Porter of the Murray Joint Fire District. Mark’s life was defined by service – as Past Chief of the Holley Fire Department and a retired Captain of Monroe Ambulance, he was always there for our community.
