Support for CFD firefighter Matt Knight as he fights bone cancer

Relief for FF Matt Knight and family

A 501(c)(3) Tax-Deductible Campaign

Illinois’ Matt Knight has been a firefighter for the past 10 years and is a proud member of Engine 73 in Chicago. In August 2025, Matt fractured his arm while fighting a fire. What was initially believed to be a simple broken bone led to a far more serious diagnosis: chondrosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. Matt underwent major surgery to remove the cancerous bone, which included a humerus replacement and an artificial shoulder reconstruction. Following surgery, he spent several months cancer-free and worked tirelessly through physical therapy with the goal of returning to the job he loves.

Unfortunately, a recent scan revealed that the cancer had become metastatic and spread to his lungs. Matt underwent additional surgery to remove several tumors, but many smaller tumors remain and will require ongoing treatment. He now faces a difficult road ahead as he continues to fight this disease. Matt and his wife, Sarah, are raising their son, Cormac, who will turn one in July, and they are also expecting their second child this June. Let’s rally around the Knight family during this challenging time and show we fight with them.
