FF Mike Altman of the Chicago Fire Department, assigned to Truck 47, was critically injured today while doing what he always does- putting others first. During a primary search at a structure fire, Mike fell through the floor into a room that was fully on fire. He sustained burns over more than 90 percent of his body and is now in the burn unit at Cook County Hospital, where he remains on a ventilator and under close medical care.
Mike is not only a dedicated firefighter, but also a husband and father with a young child at home and another baby on the way. The road ahead will be long, difficult, and incredibly costly for him and his family. As Mike fights for his life and begins the challenging journey toward recovery, let’s come together to support him and his family during this harrowing challenge.
