LYNDONVILLE, NY - In May, firefighter Peter Kage began experiencing severe pain in his neck and back. After numerous medical consultations, he was diagnosed with a traumatic spinal cord injury that significantly affected his mobility and quality of life. On September 22, 2026, Peter underwent an 11-hour surgery to repair the affected areas of his spine using mechanical implants and bone grafts. During the procedure, doctors determined that he would also require additional plastic surgery to support his recovery and restore his mobility. Peter faces a long recovery that will include extensive physical and occupational therapy, along with ongoing medical care and follow-up treatment.
Peter is single and lives on a fixed retirement income, with limited health insurance coverage and a high deductible that has left him responsible for significant out-of-pocket expenses. His family members have traveled from Montana, Florida, and California to help care for him during his recovery. As he continues treatment, Peter will also face expenses related to transportation, medical appointments, rehabilitation, and other necessary care. Let’s show Peter we’ve got his back throughout this treatment journey.
