Relief for retired CFD captain Nick Cavaligos and family as he returns to work to fund daughter’s fight with illness
Relief for the Cavaligos family
A 501(c)(3) Tax-Deductible Campaign
For more than 40 years, Nick Cavaligos has dedicated his life to serving others. He retired from the City of Chicago Fire Department on December 30, 2013, after more than 28 years of distinguished service, rising to the rank of Captain of Truck 50 and earning the respect of his fellow firefighters and the community through his leadership, professionalism, and commitment to public service. Retirement did not mark the end of his service, as he continued working as a part-time Lieutenant and firefighter with the Fox River & Countryside Fire Protection District while also teaching at multiple fire academies and mentoring the next generation of firefighters. Throughout his career, Nick has devoted himself to helping others and giving back to his community.
In 2025, Nick's daughter, Tina, was diagnosed with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), a debilitating disorder of the autonomic nervous system that left her unable to continue working as a 911 dispatcher. Like any devoted father, Nick stepped in without hesitation, taking on the role of caregiver while helping cover the growing costs of medical appointments, treatments, medications, and daily care. Despite his well-earned retirement, he has returned to working long hours to help ensure Tina receives the care she needs. Anyone who knows Nick knows he has spent his life putting others first, never asking for anything in return. Let’s rally around Nick, Tina, and the rest of the Cavaligos family to get them the financial relief they deserve.
