Michele Basic, the wife of Chicago Fire Department Lieutenant Paul Basic, has been courageously battling stage IV liposarcoma for the past 15 months. From the very beginning of her diagnosis, she has endured an intensive chemotherapy regimen, undergoing continuous treatment for more than a year. As they continue searching for additional options, the Basic family is now pursuing specialized care at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona, in hopes of finding a promising new treatment. Throughout Michele's fight, Lieutenant Basic has remained by her side while also serving as a devoted full-time father to their 16-year-old daughter, Sarah. The emotional weight of this journey has presented extraordinary challenges for the entire family.

Lieutenant Basic has faithfully served the Chicago Fire Department for 24 years, dedicating his career to protecting and leading his community. While the family remains hopeful that treatment at the Mayo Clinic will provide new possibilities, the repeated travel between Chicago and Scottsdale will create a significant financial strain on top of the burdens they have already faced over the past 15 months. The ongoing costs of medical care, transportation, lodging, and time away from work continue to add to an already overwhelming situation. Let’s provide the Basic family the reassurance that they do not have to face this fight alone.
