An 18-Year Fire Service Veteran Faces Stage 3 Rectal Adenocarcinoma

The Trent Helmkamp Story:

Meet Trent Helmkamp, an 18-year veteran of the fire service, currently serving as a Sergeant at Marine Corps Base Quantico in Northern Virginia. In December 2023, Trent received news that would change the course of his life: a diagnosis of stage 3 rectal adenocarcinoma.

A Battle Worth Fighting:

Trent's doctors have charted an aggressive treatment plan, involving chemotherapy, possible radiation, and a minimum of 2 surgeries. The road ahead is challenging, with the prospect of riding a fire truck again uncertain. At a minimum, Trent will be out of work until August, relying on the support of his wife's salary.

Navigating the Challenges:

Working in a non-unionized DOD department brings its own set of challenges, especially when it comes to benefits. Significant gaps in insurance coverage, coupled with childcare costs for upcoming appointments, add to the financial strain during this difficult time.

How You Can Help:

  • Donate: Your generous donations directly assist Trent and his family in navigating this difficult period.
