Owen Ott, the 11-year-old son of Logansport Fire Department Assistant Chief Mike Ott, is facing a challenging battle against a brain tumor. Owen is scheduled for surgery on December 5th, 2024. In the lead-up to this critical surgery, Owen has bravely endured multiple seizures daily and adverse reactions to his medications.

The road to recovery is uncertain, but the Ott family is preparing for a journey that may resemble recovery from a traumatic brain injury. With medical specialists located in Indianapolis, an hour away from their home in Logansport, the family anticipates frequent travel for appointments and treatments. Adding to the burden, their insurance deductible will reset in the new year, creating additional financial strain.

Firefighter Paramedic William "Bill" Carlos has dedicated his life to serving and protecting his community. For over 10 years, he has bravely answered the call, putting his own life on the line to help others. Now, Bill is facing his toughest battle yet: Chronic Myeloid Leukemia.

At just 29 years old, Bill received this devastating diagnosis. But even in the face of this challenge, he continues to show incredible strength and selflessness, supporting his wife through their first pregnancy and even repairing their home after recent storm damage.

Division Chief of Training Dewan Laws has proudly served the Jacksonville Fire Department in Arkansas since 1998. Throughout his 26-year career, he has held various roles, including Firefighter, Lieutenant, Captain, Battalion Chief of Operations, and now, Division Chief of Training. Like so many firefighters, Dewan's years of exposure to PFAS chemicals and toxic environments have led to serious health risks.

Chief Laws is now in his second year fighting liver cancer, specifically Cholangiocarcinoma. As anyone who has faced a cancer diagnosis knows, the challenges extend far beyond the physical battle. For Dewan and his family, the financial burden is overwhelming. While insurance helps, it does not cover all the medical bills or the out-of-state travel required for his treatments.

Alyzah Grace Price, a joyful and energetic 2-year-old who brings light into every room, is now facing a challenging battle. The beloved daughter of CJ Price, a dedicated firefighter with the City of Martinsburg Fire Department, and granddaughter of Travis Horne, Operations Chief at Martin State Airport with the Maryland Air National Guard, Alyzah has been diagnosed with a Wilms tumor.

On September 1st, Alyzah was taken to the local ER after her parents noticed a firm area on her stomach, which was soon revealed to be a tumor on her kidney. She was immediately transferred to Children's Hospital in Morgantown, where she underwent surgery on September 3rd. The doctors successfully removed her left kidney along with the tumor, but Alyzah's journey isn't over. She now has a port placed and will begin chemotherapy once her surgical wounds heal.

Tomorrow, Alyzah will celebrate her 3rd birthday in the hospital, a day that should be filled with joy but is instead marked by uncertainty and struggle. Her family faces mounting medical expenses, ongoing treatment costs, and the challenge of traveling two hours each way to Children's Hospital for her care.

Members of the Stillman Fire Protection District and the broader Ogle County community are rallying to support two of our own, who now face a battle that no firefighter ever expects—one against cancer.

Whitney Trosper Anderson, a dedicated firefighter, has been diagnosed with Stage 2 Hodgkin's Lymphoma. She is embarking on an arduous journey of 16 rounds of aggressive chemotherapy over the next 8 months. In addition, Dariusz Warzocha, another brave firefighter who had previously conquered an aggressive form of Leukemia, is now facing a heartbreaking recurrence of the disease, which has returned with a vengeance, leaving him unexpectedly hospitalized.

Whitney and Dariusz have devoted their lives to keeping our Ogle County community safe, embodying the selfless spirit that defines the firefighter profession. Now, it's our turn to stand by them in their time of need. These courageous individuals have put their lives on the line countless times, and now they need our help as they confront these formidable battles with cancer.

Cody Wilcox, a 6-year veteran of the fire service, was injured in an accidental gunshot wound on Saturday, August 11th. This injury will keep him out of commission for at least 12 weeks. Cody, a new officer serving as a First Lieutenant, works three jobs to support his son and fiancée. Unfortunately, none of these jobs provide short-term disability benefits.

In addition to his fire service role, Cody works for Green For Life Environmental and serves as the City Ordinance Officer for Brown City. During this challenging time, he is seeking assistance to help cover his family's needs while he is unable to work.
