On Saturday, June 27, 2026, at approximately 10:31 a.m., Probationary Firefighter Robert "Bobby" Reider was involved in a motor vehicle crash while responding to a fire call. Units from Station 43-4, which were responding to the original call, immediately diverted to the crash scene, while Forest Grove Fire Company (43-5) handled the initial emergency. Firefighters worked quickly to extricate Bobby from his vehicle before he was airlifted to Cooper Hospital with severe traumatic injuries. Despite the dedicated efforts of his medical team, Bobby succumbed to his injuries and passed away on July 10, 2026, at approximately 4:30 a.m., at just 23 years of age.
Bobby joined the fire company in 2018 at the age of 16 as a junior firefighter, beginning a journey defined by dedication and selfless service. In 2022, he completed Firefighter I training at the Salem County Fire Academy, earning his certificate of completion and continuing to grow as a firefighter. Year after year, he demonstrated exemplary attendance at emergency calls, drills, and meetings, reflecting his unwavering commitment to his department and community. Bobby's compassion, work ethic, and genuine desire to help others left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of serving alongside him. His legacy of service, kindness, and devotion will continue to inspire his fellow firefighters, friends, and the community he cared for so deeply.
