He Served Us for 24 Years. Now He Needs Backup.

Since September 2001, Chad Brown has answered the call for the Defiance community. For nearly 25 years, he has served on the line and led his brothers and sisters as the President of Local 918. He was nearing a well-deserved retirement next year, but life had other plans.

In February 2025, Chad's wife, Amber, was diagnosed with Stage III squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue. The battle was immediate and brutal: chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. It meant agonizing pain for Amber and months of separation from their three school-age children while she and Chad traveled to Columbus for treatment.

Amber fought hard and completed treatment in August. But the relief was short-lived.

Recently, the pain returned. Scans revealed the worst-case scenario: the cancer is back, it has progressed to Stage IV, and it has metastasized to her lungs.

Amber is now facing a grueling regimen of chemotherapy and immunotherapy. The stakes are incredibly high. If this treatment fails, further surgery could result in the total loss of her ability to speak or swallow, requiring a permanent feeding tube and lifelong care.

Chad has stepped down as Union President to focus entirely on Amber and their kids. The emotional strain is immense, and the financial burden of travel, lodging, and medical care is mounting.

Chad has spent a lifetime protecting others. Today, we are asking you to protect his family. Your donation goes directly to the Brown family to help offset the costs of:

  • Travel and lodging for treatments in Columbus.

  • Medical expenses not covered by insurance.

  • Supporting their three children during this fight.

Please help us hold the line for the Brown family.
