He geared up to save his own home. Now, we gear up to help him rebuild.
In the early morning hours of December 14th, Pennsville Volunteer Firefighter Austin Woodfin woke up to the sound every first responder dreads: smoke detectors screaming in his own home.
With only moments to spare, Austin escaped the flames with the clothes on his back, his phone, and his two dogs. But his instinct as a firefighter didn’t end at the door. Austin rushed to the fire station, geared up, and joined his crew on the engine, responding back to the scene in a desperate attempt to save his livelihood.
Despite the crew's best efforts, the fire escalated rapidly. The home is a total loss. Austin has lost everything—his shelter, his belongings, and his memories.
