Josephina Divine Wolf is an unexpected blessing who has already proven her strength. Diagnosed at just 9 weeks gestation with Truncus Arteriosus, a rare congenital heart defect, Josephina is preparing for the fight of her life before she is even born.
The doctors at Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth have a plan, but the road is steep. Josephina will require open-heart surgery immediately following her birth to survive. This is just the first of several surgeries she will endure, including pulmonary valve installation and reconstructive surgery for a bilateral cleft lip later in childhood.
The Situation: To give Josephina the best fighting chance, the Wolf family must relocate from their home in Midland, TX, to Fort Worth—a 5-hour journey away from their support system. They will be stationed there for weeks prior to birth and at least 6 weeks post-surgery.
