A Fire Marshal's Fight Against Cancer:

Daniel Tallman's Fight Against Cancer.

About Daniel Tallman:

Back in 2020, Daniel was diagnosed with Stage 4 liver cancer. Over time, it spread to multiple parts of his body, including the liver, abdomen, and beyond. Daniel wants to take you through his journey in the fire service and the unexpected turn life took.

A Lifelong Passion:

My journey in the fire service started with my grandpa taking me to the firehouse. The camaraderie, the bravery—I was hooked. Inspired by the movie 'Backdraft,' I dreamt of becoming a fire marshal and eventually got my dream job. I've cherished every moment of my 20 years in the fire service.

Facing the Unthinkable:

I, like many, thought 'it won't happen to me.' But, life had a different plan. I was diagnosed during a vacation, dealing with what I thought was a gallbladder attack. It turned out to be more. The screenings I neglected became crucial. My message: don't dismiss the screenings; they can make all the difference.

A Lesson in Advocacy:

I didn't advocate for myself fast enough. Waiting for scans, the cancer spread beyond the kidney. Advocacy matters. Getting screenings done and pushing for timely action can be life-changing. I share this hoping others won't make the same mistake.

Navigating the Battle:

Finding good doctors, especially an oncologist who advocates for you, is vital. I've been blessed with an amazing oncologist. To my fellow brothers battling cancer, stay strong. It's a mind game, but fight through the good and bad days. Be your own advocate and push through.
